Twenty-three counts of embezzlement and one count of fraud. Praise the Lord (PTL) televangelist Jim Bakker was charged with these crimes in the late 1980s and given a sentence of 45 years in prison and a $500,000 fine. Since the program began in 1974, Bakker, along with PTL's former No. 2 administrator, Richard Dortch, and Bakker aides David and James Taggart, embezzled approximately $158 million dollars from PTL ministries. Bakker was also found to have been involved in an affair with church secretary, Jessica Hahn, in 1980. In an attempt to keep her quite about their interactions, Bakker paid Hahn approximately $265,000. This is not a random occurrence in a single church ministry; there are many others that are just as familiar and wide-known.
In 1988, Jimmy Swaggart of the Jimmy Swaggart Telecast was reported to have been involved with a prostitute. There is much hypocrisy to the situation because of his public scorn against fellow preacher Marvin Gorman. When Gorman hired a private detective who took incriminating photographs of Swaggart taking a prostitute into a hotel with him that were shown to the Assemblies of God leadership, Swaggart caused many of his supporters to withdraw their sponsorship.
The United States divorce rate is twenty-five percent; this number represents all of the adults who are currently divorced or who ever have been divorced. Among various denominations, the divorce rate ranges from twenty-one to thirty-four percent. Some denominations, such as Mormons (24%) and Catholics (21%), have a divorce rate that is lower than the national rate. While others, such as Non-denominational Christians (34%) and Baptists (29%), have divorce rates that are higher than the national rate. Of the divorces among born-again couples, ninety percent occur after they have been saved.
Many people assume that because a person goes to church, their lives are perfect, without flaw or imperfection. Yet “perfect churchgoers” have their faults too. There are those who have alcohol problems and drug problems, those who have abusiveness issues, and those who have fidelity troubles. Sometimes even the leaders of church ministries are flawed. Being a churchgoer does not mean that you are perfect, it means you’re forgiven if you truly believe.

Reflections on writing
So with our first paper we were supposed to comment on other blogs in order to read a variety of essays and become objective in our own proofreading. When I read other papers, I was only able to comment on one paper. I think it would be so much easier if we just passed the papers around the class and we made comments that way.
Also, no one commented on my paper, so I got no outside suggestions. So my opinion of the comments being left on blogs is not in favor of it.

ok. so im really stressing about this blog thing. its slightly frustrating. my internet at home is messed up, so i cant blog from home! im also not really sure what we're supposed to be blogging about.
so friday night we actually got to take about a fourth of our band to the away game against harris county. we ended up losing, but im glad we got to go. i really wish that people cared enough to get busses for the band. but nobody cares about the band, so we only got one bus :(
i watched a lot of tennis this weekend, and i got really frustrated when serena lost the match because of a bad call and a bad temper. i still dont think its fair that she got docked a point and was fined 10k. its a crazy world. so federer and del potro play today and i hope that del potro wins. im tired of federer winning everything.
nobody has commented on my paper yet, and im not sure what to do about that. one of the ones im supposed to comment on wont let me. and for another one, i got sent to the wrong page. so now i finally found the right one. i need to go read it and comment on it now.

So I know that my essay isn't going to be the best. I'm not a very good writer. So any suggestions would be great.
It used to be that when the man of the house got home from work, the lady of the house would have dinner ready and waiting on the table. The children would have already finished any homework they had, and the mother would call them in from playing in the backyard. They would all sit down to dinner at the dining room table, and while they ate, they would talk about the day.
The pace at which technology has grown in the United States has affected many facets of society. It has caused many people to live an on-the-go lifestyle. Because of this hectic lifestyle, families spend less time together doing everyday activities, such as sitting down to dinner together, that were at one time a part of their daily routines. As a result, family members have gradually drifted apart and become a disconnected group of people living under the same roof.
Until recently, the “bread winner” of many households was the man of the house. The typical American household used to consist of the man who went out and earned a living and the woman who stayed at home to take care of the children and be a “domestic engineer.” Now, however, in many American households, both the man and the woman work for a living, in addition to the woman taking care of the house and children. For many families, it is difficult to find a time when all members can sit down to a meal together. Because of this, many families now have an “eat what you can, when you can” mindset when it comes to eating meals.
Kids today have become involved in so many different activities. Because parents are having to take this child to soccer practice, and pick this child up from band practice, and another is running in from football practice, there may be very few times when the whole family is home at the same time. And even if there is a time they are all home together, the kids may be occupied working on homework and the parents may even have work to do at home.
Fast food restaurants have made driving through on the way from one practice to another very convenient. Because it is so much easier to do this, many families eat on the go and do not sit down together to eat. Driving through also saves mom precious time that she would otherwise spend cleaning up after dinner. Because fast food has evolved to include many choices and is of higher quality, it almost seems a waste of time to make a home-cooked meal. Because of this, many families may drive through multiple restaurants whenever they have time to eat during their busy schedules.
Today, many families eat dinner whenever is convenient for each individual person. It is rare that a family now sits down to dinner together at the kitchen table on a regular basis. Living an on-the-go lifestyle, having children who are very involved, having two working parents in a household, and the ease of picking up fast food are just a few examples of why families don’t eat together as much as they used to.
